Jennylyn stages own disappearing act

Did Jennylyn Mercado?
When asked the question, Jennylyn’s talent manager Becky Aguila and her “I Am Woman” director/publicist Calvin Neria did not answer.
But Jennylyn got sick and her voice was affected. Her doctor advised not to talk for the time being, leading to the postponement of the original “I Am Woman” presscon last Tuesday. It was reset for Saturday which she also did not attend. Nobody knew where she was, not even her surrogate mother. She was reported driving around the metro...by herself. “Baka tinopak,” somebody who knows her speculated. Jennylyn could be like that.
The presscon was cancelled with talent manager Becky Aguila deciding to talk to the media.
Jennylyn headlines “I Am Woman” at the Music Museum on May 14. Christian Bautista, Janno Gibbs, Ogie Alcacid. Richard Poon, Jay-R, Jasmine Fitzgerald and the Singer With the Telegenic Voice Nico Antonio will join Jennylyn’s celebration of life, love and being a woman. She sings and dances as he tackles different genres, including dance, pop, standards and OPM hits. The concert also celebrates her birthday which is on the following day, May 15. Calvin is director while Naldy Rodriguez is musical director.
But why is Jennylyn acting this way? Can she be suffering from post-partum depression, a telltale signs being sex-hungry?
Becky was very upset. Since Jennylyn was not answering her mobile phone calls, she did not know where she was. She said the report that Jennylyn had been missing for several days was exaggerated. When asked last Sunday how long she had been missing, she answers, “Just yesterday.”
Jennylyn has a lot of problems. When she got pregnant, boyfriend Patrick Garcia abandoned her. She has financial obligations. She has court cases of the ex-handler who stole money from her. Trying to make a comeback, she publishes the “Reborn” book and mounts the “I Am Woman” birthday concert.
The “Reborn” book is encountering printing problems. Originally scheduled for a late February release, it has not even started printing until now. The art director is terribly slow in finishing the book layout. It will definitely not meet the May 14 “final date of release,” as a press release states. She does not even have a book to pre-sell during the “I Am Woman” concert as originally planned.
The “I Am Woman” concert is another major concern for her. Originally scheduled for two days, ticket sales is slow. The local concert of the two Davids, Cook and Archuleta, fell on her second night so her concert was cut down to one day. (See related STIR story entitled “Jennylyn vs. the Two Davids.”)
Did she do her disappearing act to promote her concert? That’s cruel to even consider but that’s the mindset of most showbiz insiders.
Could she be with a man? Nobody knew.
Nobody knew perhaps even Jennylyn herself.
God forbids Jennylyn will do a Marilyn Monroe. The Hollywood ‘60s Sex Goddess, unable to sleep, overdosed with a powerful brand of sleeping pills after her psychiatrist suggested to go for a drive.
Jennylyn showed up last Monday for “Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?” taping as she promised. She dismissed the disappearance lightly, reasoning out she was not feeling well due to fever and migraine. After having her camera fixed, she went home and took a rest. She overslept and woke up at 12 midnight. Her surrogate mother has no idea about it as she was in Baby AJ’s room. As she knew to have committed a big mistake, she decided not to answer her phone calls.
Not convincing and full of loopholes. But can we give woman Jennylyn the benefit of doubt?
